Message from the Department Head

Welcome to the Department of Biology. We start out the new 2012-2013 academic year with about 350 new students entering the department, for an overall total of close to 950 undergraduates. We have one new assistant professor this year and we also welcome a few new students into our graduate program and congratulate those that finished last year and have moved on to the next phase of their life. We are pleased to have opened the new building extension to the Bailey Science Center this past summer that has given us more faculty and student offices and two more state-of-the-art teaching labs. And, check out our new boat below! We’re looking forward to getting more students out on (and under) the ocean this year to participate in research projects.

There are lots of other announcements that will be forthcoming and I encourage you to sign up and follow the department’s activities on my twitter account @RobertGannon2.
