Ninth Annual Multicultural Sankofa
Valdosta State University celebrated the Ninth Annual Multicultural Sankofa on Friday, May 7, 2010, in the Student Union Theater. Graduates, their families and friends and VSU administrators, faculty and staff were in attendance. The guest speaker for the occasion was Ms. Diandria “Nikki” Forman, 2008 VSU graduate.
Other program participants included, Dr. Calvin Walker (Associate Professor of VSU’s OASIS program and African American Studies program), Ms. Janiece Benefield (Senior Sankofa Program Chair) Ms. Jasmine Peterson (Assistant Sankofa Program Chair), Ms. Jamie Dekle (Senior, Early Childhood Education), and Dr. Ivan Nikolov (Director International Programs). Closing meditation was given by Napoleon Bamfo, Professor of Political Science.
Dr. Shirley Hardin, Director of African American Studies, presided over the program and presented the following Sankofa Awards for 2010:
